Jail - Frequently Asked Questions

What are visiting hours?
Males last name A-M: Sunday from 12noon to 2pm
Males last name N-Z: Tuesday from 6pm-8pm
Females: Saturday from 12noon to 2pm
Huber (work release) Male and Female: Sunday from 6pm-8pm
*Adult visitors must be at least 18 years of age. Children under the age of 18 will be allowed to visit a parent but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must not be left unattended.
*Visitor identification is required. Bring a driver's license or state I.D. Card.
*There is a 20 minute limit on visits.

How do I send mail to an inmate?
All letters coming into the jail for inmates should be addressed as follows:

They must have a return address on the envelope.

What kind of people are held in the St Croix County Jail?
The jail holds persons arrested or charged with any level of offense from a misdemeanor driving offense to a serious felony as well as people convicted of a crime and serving time on a sentence. Intoxicated persons who may be a danger to themselves or others are occasionally held in the jail temporarily until transportation to a detoxification center is available. The Sheriff's Department follows an inmate classification process to determine which housing unit would be the best place to house a particular inmate in order to best maintain the safety and security of the facility.

When will an inmate go to court?
Initial court appearance is typically at 1pm the following business day after arrest. It can take 2-3 hours for an inmate to be released.

How can I post bond for an inmate?
You must have the exact amount of money needed as officer's can not give out change. Credit Cards can be used on a limited basis. Call the jail for information.

How do I get money to an inmate?
Money may be sent by mail or dropped off in person. Money needs to be cash or money order. Money may also be deposited into an inmates account using a credit or debit card. Click here for more information.

Can I call an inmate?
Inmates are not allowed to receive any phone calls while in the facility. They can make collect calls from their cell block. All calls are recorded by the Jail. Inmates can purchase a phone card  and then they can call cell phones.

What items may an inmate have while in custody?
No items may be dropped off for inmates, except prescription medications, eyeglasses or other medical equipment (must be approved by jail nurse).

bulletBooks, hygiene items, writing material, uniforms and shoes are provided to the inmate while in custody. Inmates may purchase stamps, snacks, soft drinks and other necessities through canteen with their own funds.
 
bulletYou may drop off prescription medication in clean appropriately marked prescription containers. The information on the containers will be used to help verify the inmate's doctor, pharmacy, and dosage amounts.
 
bulletInmates may posses no more than three photographs (no Polaroid photos). The photographs must be appropriate in nature. Please use the USPS to mail all photos and letters. We will not accept any notes, letters, cards or photos unless they arrive through the post office.

Inmate property Information
If an inmate has left the St Croix County Jail and was either required to leave behind their personal belongings or did not get back all their property at release, the inmate must pick up the property themselves or designate someone else to pick up the property within 30 days of their release date. The designee must bring identification.

bulletIf the property was confiscated at the time of arrest, you will have to contact the Police Department that arrested the inmate.
 
bulletIf a vehicle was impounded or towed, you will have to contact the arresting agency and/or impound lot to determine what is needed to retrieve the vehicle.
