Batteries are essential to
our portable lifestyle. Cars, phones, music, cameras and even our daily
planners make our lives convenient and instant because of power supplied by
batteries. As we continue to enhance our lives with portable amenities,
battery disposal is becoming an environmental challenge. A number of local
programs are available to County residents to reduce battery waste.
Automotive and Lead Acid batteries -
lead-acid vehicle and marine batteries can be taken to a
business that sells them,
usually for a small fee.
Rechargeable
batteries--Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Lithium, small sealed
lead (up to 2 lbs), and button batteries--can be brought to the Planning and
Zoning Department at the St Croix County
Government Center in Hudson anytime during the year or brought to the
Clean Sweep Hazardous Waste Collection. Also
call 1-800-8-BATTERY for a collection site near you.
Alkaline batteries
- AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V that do not contain mercury can be discarded in
the trash.
