St
Croix County does not have a compost site where residents can drop-off
leaves and grass clippings, but there are some options for these materials.
Local
municipalities may offer a municipal leaf collection program.
Consider on-site disposal options like composting and mulching. The
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
has further information about setting up your own backyard
composting project.
Farmers in St Croix County can use leaves
and grass clippings as a weed barrier and soil amendment on fields where
organic produce is grown. Dennis Fleischauer of Diamond D Farms in Somerset
and Garry Fay of Freedom Farm in Houlton accept these items for free, but
asks that people call to make arrangements for delivery to the farms. They
also accept a limit amount of brush for disposal for a fee. Garry is also
looking for manure for his fields at Freedom Farm. St Croix County residents
can contact Fleischauer at Diamond D Farm at 715.247.5615 or 651.238.0734.
Garry Fay can be reached at Freedom Farm at 715-549-6451. Composting
Concepts in Woodbury, Minnesota accepts most yard waste for a fee. Call
651.436.1213 for further details.
